Sony FS700 Announced
Today, Sony announced its latest camera, the NEX-FS700. This is the big brother to the FS100 but with some major additions. The big news is the inclusion of an 3G/HD-SDI output and ND Filters, which were two of the most requested additions to the FS100. And the really big news is that the camera is “4K Ready” meaning that in the future it will be able to output 4K RAW data over the 3G-SDI connection.
Although technically sitting between the F3 and the FS100E, it sports features that blow both of the cameras out of the water. Key being the ability to output 4k out of a 3G-SDI interface and in-camera recording at up 10 times your normal speed. This is a region free camera, so if you have to shoot 25p you can go up to 250 FPS at full HD…yep full HD, not 720p or anything smaller. If you go into 30p we are talking RED Epic at like 300 FPS in Full HD. Crazy! I get the feeling that it is in 10 second bursts, not continuous. Still very impressive. It can also do higher frame rates of 400/800 and 960 fps at reduced resolution and at the higher speeds cropping….
When the camera is available in June we Art Square Production will make sure that we have it in our rental department and be ready for our productions. We will announce the camera rental price and availability for rental scene in Toronto, ON.
