New project for Omni Rogers
We are going to produce a documentry for Omni Rogers for this Fall. More updates regarding the project will be here.
The synopsis:
The documentary will provide an answer to the role of ethnic grocery stores. It will demonstrate how ethnic groceries became the focus for social relationship and cultural identity in years, how they serve an important role in the community— as a source of information about community resources, as a place to meet and socialize with similar others and how play an instrumental role in preserving cultural practice.
The documentary will also treat the new way of conceptualizing ethnic grocery stores which is “Ethnic stores are not just ethnic; they are now specialized stores”. And Canadians are enjoying them as well. The idea that ethnic stores are for ethnic people or that ethnic people would go only to ethnic stores for their groceries is probably a past concept,” professor Lucia Lo says. As more Canadians embrace ethno-cultural shopping, ethnic grocery store owners feel confident in their business and they don’t feel any competition with other big stores.
